Getting There


There are basically two ways to get to Mount Hotham

  • Catching the bus
  • Driving
    – Hume Highway and then the “Snow Road”, or
    – Princes Highway through Bairnsdale and then Omeo

 

Catching the bus to Mount Hotham

When catching the bus from Melbourne to Mount Hotham, you have two options

  1. SnowBall ExpressThe SnowBall Express departs from the Southern Cross railway station and runs through to both the Spiral Stairs and Big D at Mount Hotham.  Details can be found here -> SnowBall Express
  2. HothamBus can take you to the Mount Hotham, Falls Creek and Dinner Plain ski resorts for the 2013 snow season. Check out the HothamBus website for schedules and prices

 

Driving to Mount Hotham

  • In winter – ( For more information about these items, click here )

    • All vehicles must carry Snow Chains in the alpine resort during the snow season
    • Diesel vehicles should use Alpine Diesel or use a Diesel additive

There are two routes are available when driving to the APEA Lodge at Mount Hotham;

  • Via Harrietville, the “Snow Road”, your route is along the Hume Highway through Glenrowan, Myrtleford and Bright.
  • Via Omeo your route is the Princes Highway through Bairnsdale. In winter it is advisable to check if both roads are open before you select your route.

Parking – Winter

  • Streetside parking at APEA is for 30 minutes only, this is strictly enforced by Mt Hotham Resort Management
  • Day parking (7am – midnight) at Blue Ribbon carpark (parking bay across the road from APEA Lodge, map reference i3)
  • Overnight or extended parking, Continue driving another 1km for overnight street parking (on the right), or continue on to Whitey’s Carpark (Bus Stop 9) for further overnight parking options. If you plan to stay a number of days, this is an easier option to drive out of if your car is snowed in
