Vehicle Information

Snow Chains

  • All vehicles, (2 wheel drive, 4 wheel drive and All wheel drive), must carry Snow Chains in the alpine resort during the snow season.
  • Chains must be “Diamond” patterned and must fit correctly.
(Not “Spider” chains and not “Ladder” chains).

Chains4WD and AWD vehicles can generally travel further in the snow than two-wheel drive vehicles and depending on the conditions, signs generally exempt them from fitting chains. However, in heavy snow conditions four-wheel drive vehicles can still reach a point where snow chains will become necessary for them to continue driving.

Alpine Diesel

dieselDiesel fuel purchased in the coastal regions may freeze in the vehicle lines in colder highland areas if the vehicle is left outside overnight or for a number of hours in below zero temperatures. This means that the vehicle will not start until the diesel has melted. To avoid this problem it is strongly recommended that if a prolonged or overnight stay is planned in an alpine region then the diesel vehicles either;

  • carry enough fuel to get to the Alpine region and then refuel with local diesel fuel (Alpine Diesel); or
  • purchase a diesel additive (Extreme Cold Weather Fuel Treatment) and follow the instructions on the bottle.

Here is a short list of Service Stations in the Alpine region; Additional Service Stations may also be found in the area

  • Myrtleford Caltex (Open until 9pm, possible A/H Self Service panel found on the left hand side of the building)
  • Bright
    • BP
    • Shell (at the Roundabout)

parkingParking your car

  • Leave your windscreen wipers up off the windscreen
(avoids them freezing to the glass)
  • Leave your handbrake OFF and your car in gear
    (avoids freezing the brake on).
  • Fit your snow chains
(it is quite difficult to fit them to cars covered by snow)
