With an extensive amount of snow making on Friday night, along with the 10cm of snow that had fallen during the week, Mount Hotham was able to open the first lift for the season over the weekend. It also gave skiers and boarders an opportunity to try out the fully automated access cards and new scanning gates installed at Big D.

VicRoads have advised that The Great Alpine Road between Harrietville and the Dargo High Plains Road will be opened on Thursday 30 May at 4.00pm, allowing unrestricted access to Mt Hotham from Harrietville. A spokesman for VicRoads said “We will be in a position to open the road safely after completing the slip repair works and most of the removal of dead and hazardous trees.”, that resulted from the recent bush fires in the area.
