Opening Weekend 2015, two lifts open.

With some snowfalls earlier in the week, and some icy cold temperatures, the 2015 opening of the  snow season kicked off with two lifts open, Big D and Playground offering a small taste of things to come. Visibility was poor and winds were strong, but for some it was worth it to be rewarded with short lift queues, even if the snow coverage wasn’t complete. Another 8cm fell overnight.

Another 8cm fell overnight now bringing the average natural snow depth up to 31cm. There are still only the three lifts open at the moment (Big D, Summit Trainer and Playground Mid Station). More snow is forecast for the rest of the weekend.

Big D is now open.

With an extensive amount of snow making on Friday night, along with the 10cm of snow that had fallen during the week, Mount Hotham was able to open the first lift for the season over the weekend.  It also gave skiers and boarders an opportunity to try out the fully automated access cards and new scanning gates installed at Big D.
